More teachers’ strikes could break out in schools in England after a second education union voted to strike over pay cuts.
The NASUWT union said 88.5% of its eligible voters voted in favor of strikes, with a turnout of 51.9%.
A larger union, the National Education Union (NEU), has already held seven days of nationwide strikes since February and is re-electing its members for further action in the fall.
NASUWT said it plans to take action before a strike in September.
dr NASUWT general secretary Patrick Roach said the vote was the largest mandate the union had received for industrial action in more than a decade.
“Today our members sent a strong message to the government and employers that teachers are demanding better pay and tackling excessive workloads and hours,” he added.
This is breaking news – more to come.
