Arsenal International is not for the 1st. Called since 2019

Bernd Leno Arsenal, 29 APRIL 2021 – Soccer / Football: UEFA Europa League Semi-Finals 1st Leg Match between Villarreal CF 2-1 Arsenal FC at the Estadio de la Ceramica in Vila-Real, Spain.

In general, the Arsenal team can not complain about a lack of international calls for the March break.

The Gunners have four players in the English squad (Ben White, Aaron Ramsdale, Bukayo Saka, and Emile Smith Rowe), Gabriel Martinelli has received his first Brazil call, Cedric Soares is back in the Portugal squad, and so on.

But for the first time since June 2019 – when he was missed due to injury – Bernd Leno was not called up Germany.

Manuel Neuer, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Kevin Trapp all packed the squad for Leno, which raises the question of whether he will be involved in the World Cup later this year.

It is not hard to guess why the decision was made. Leno has not played a Premier League game since August, and he has only played once in all competitions in 2022 – a 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest.

Aaron Ramsdale reluctantly made way for Leno on the pitch. Hansi Flick will obviously hesitate to pick a goalkeeper who does not play any matches.

The long-term implications of Leno’s exclusion are that he may be even more likely to push for a transfer in the summer.

I’m sure Arsenal expect that, and it looks like they’ve already tried to prepare for his departure by agreeing to the signing of MLS ‘Matt Turner.
