The Southampton boss points to a rare chance to sign big money against Manchester City

RALPH Hasenhuttl hinted that struggling striker Adam Armstrong could get “a chance at the weekend” when the Saints host Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

The summer arrival has only been shot twice throughout the season and has been converted for just 17 minutes of the last three Premier League games, despite Saints losing them all.

These minutes came in the form of a substitute against the former Newcastle United during the 2-1 defeat, before both Armando Broja and Shane Long were used, while Armstrong was left on the bench during the defeat against Watford.

In the Premier League, Armstrong has only played 45 minutes since the turn of the year. He started all three of the FA Cup clashes, however – without finding the net.

Asked what the 25-year-old must do to be the man who chose Hasenhuttl, even though he left a match behind, the boss replied: “As always, wait for the moment to take the plunge. play and then try a well done.

“As a sub, I think he did it very well. Like I said, he has some patterns in his game that definitely help us and he needs to learn other things as he knows how.

Hasenhuttl continued: “We definitely work very hard with him like any other player and I’m sure he’s got a chance to play sooner or later.

“We get a lot of players even after the international break and maybe he’ll get a chance this weekend as well.”

Armstrong, who replaced Danny Ings in a £ 15million deal last summer, could take part when Pep Guardiola visits St Mary’s City on Sunday, March 20, starting at 3pm.
