Doohan captures F2 Feature Race Pole | THE DAILY TRIBUNE

Virtuosi Racing’s Jack Doohan took the pole position last night for the season-opening Feature Race at the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship, held this weekend to support the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) .

Doohan, from Australia, set a fastest time of 40.542 seconds in qualifying last night, under BIC’s bright lights.

The Feature Race is scheduled to start tomorrow at 13.40. Felipe Drugovich of MP Motorsport, who finished qualifying in the 10th, will start the F2 Sprint Race at the pole today following the reverse grid rule of the series.

At 7.40pm the sprint is scheduled. In qualifying yesterday, Doohan narrowly beat Theo Pourchaire of the ART Grand Prix, who had a best lap time of 1: 40.683. Juri Vips of Hitech Grand Prix was third on the schedule in 1: 4 0.7 5 5, while Logan Sargeant of Carlin, Ralph Boschung of Campos Racing and Liam Lawson in the second Carlin Auto finished the top six.

Jehan Daruvala of Prema Racing and Jake Hughes of Van Amersfoort Racing rounded out the top 8 of the 22 competing drivers. Meanwhile, Drugovich set the practice pace early yesterday with a fastest lap time of 1: 44.448.

Ranked behind him in the 45-minute session were the ladies pair of Ayumu Iwasa from Japan and Roy Nissany from Israel. Iwasa had a best lap of 1: 44.679 in second place, while Nissany had a mark of 1: 44.754 in third place.

Drugovich’s French team-mate Clement Novalak came in fourth and the Hitech Grand Prix’s Marcus Armstrong from New Zealand was fifth, while the top 8 were Daruvala, Lawson and Sargeant.
