Last year’s Midlands Grand National winner Time To Get Up is popular in the market and is as short as 11-4 in places to make it back-to-back wins in Saturday’s feature contest (3.35) in Uttoxeter.
The nine-year-old Jonjo O’Neill-trained was a length winner of the late Scottish national hero Mighty Thunder in the 4m2f Listed Handicap Chase last year and even though he has not won since, he is back in some form when he ranks third in Haydock’s Grand National trial last month.
Time To Get Up will only run a 4lb mark higher than when it was successful last year and he was cut to 11-4 (from 7-2) with William Hill in an overall 3-1 cut elsewhere for the first horse to become the Midlands National twice.
In the same race, Denis Hogan-trained Young Dev was cut to an overall 9-1 (out of 11) to give Ireland a first-round victory in the race since Goonyella shot in 2015, while Colin Tizzard-trained Paddleyourowncanoe also was. well supported this morning and is now 11-1 (out of 16).
One of the big drifts in the Midlands National was last year’s fourth Screaming Colors, which is now as big as 14-1 (out of 10) despite finishing second in the Cork Grand National on its last start.
Saturday tickets and betting
Also on the map, Boothill replaced Beauport as an 11-4 favorite (from 7-2) in the 2m4f handicap hurdle (3.00) to end Harry Fry’s brilliant week following Love Envoi’s Cheltenham Festival success.
At Kempton, Evan Williams – trained Annsam went down 8-1 (out of 10) to return from his Coral Trophy disappointment in the 2m5f Handicap Hurdle (2.40), while the Killer Clown is now 5-1 (out of 7) is the 2m4ff Handicap Chase (3.15).

Midlands Grand National for walking on soft ground after a dry night
Soft ground will await runners in the condition-sapping Midlands Grand National after conditions at Uttoxeter overnight remained dry, with a bright and sunny day expected for the track feature meeting of the year.
The area was eased on Wednesday after 12mm of rain all day, but no further rain has hit the Staffordshire line since and course coach Clerk Richard Fothergill expected ideal jumping conditions for the Boulton Group-backed competition.
He said: “We’re soft. We had similar rain in Cheltenham but not as extreme as they got it on Wednesday. We had 12mm but that’s all we had. Otherwise it’s dry and light and it should be similar later to be. “

Ireland hope to follow in the footsteps of Friday’s Cheltenham Festival with four Irish-trained runners competing in the 4m2f listed competition, led by Shark Hanlon-trained Hewick.
An Irish-trained runner who is not on the map is Freedom To Dream after retiring this morning from the 2m4f handicap hurdle after finishing fourth in the Martin Pipe yesterday.
Fothergill added: “It’s going to be a tough day with some great entries. It’s really nice for us to be on ITV and we’re hoping for around 10,000 viewers.
“We have some Irish trained runners and it’s really nice to be interested in that too.”
Kempton also makes four runs on ITV and the pitch is good, good to soft in places on the track after a dry night.
