Quotables
Chef Trainer Zeke Jones on today’s performance
“It’s really hard to have a tough round and win the national championship as a team. It takes six solid rounds and we had three really solid rounds. Like any good team we fight for a trophy and have to have a good fifth round to win it. to get.”
Assistant Coach Eric Thompson
On immediate thought after Schultz’s semi-final victory
“I’m just excited for him. I’m excited that he’s getting what he’s worked for all his life and I’m very grateful that I’m here with him and that I’m in Arizona State with Zeke, Frank Molinaro in the Lee Pritts and that our administration supports wrestling. “
How to work with Schultz
“Cohlton is a huge kid. He’s someone you want to be around – his personality is second to none. He’s a hard worker you want your daughter to date and your son to grow up with. He was fun to be with. work and his openness and willingness to change a few things were great.
Cohlton Schultz – Post NCAA Semi-Final Interview
On how he felt, the kick was picked up by Jordan Wood and landed on his back
“I was picked up like that is not something I’m used to and I’m definitely not a fan of it, but I had that front head lock fixed and I kept it for nice life. As soon as I hit it on the head. With I thought.” When I roll through it, I’m upstairs ”and I’m lucky that’s what happened and it worked in my favor.
On how much he predicted and looking forward to fighting Gable Steveson
“I’ve not fought Gable since my first year of high school or anything like that. He’s a huge competitor and an excellent wrestler. I see all the things on social media and I know everyone thinks he’s inconsistent, but “My plan is to strike him. If things get in my way, I will raise my hand.”
How ASU helped him improve his game
We have one of the best coaching staff in the world. Bringing coach Thompson this year was tremendous – having a great partner like that in the room who was able to fight and coach me was extremely good. He just has a great personality and when I have Thompson in my corner I feel like he’s getting my head in the right place for all my matches and the whole weekend was great. Trainer Zeke Jones put together the best practice plan for the whole year, he planned everything. If you want to become national champion, you want to win a lot of trophies and a lot of matches you have to come to ASU. That’s where it’s.
