Mr Khanna, the son of Indian immigrants, has also won the support of influential groups in the Indian American community, one of the fastest growing electoral blocs in the country.
Neil Makhija, of the Indian American Impact Group, was enthusiastic about Mr. Khanna’s prospects.
“We’ll have a desi [someone from the Indian subcontinent] Head of State fast enough. The question is whether the progressive Ro Khanna will become the first president or the conservative Rishi Sunak will become the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. My bet is on the progressive, “he said The Telegraph.
Mr Khanna also has supporters under the Democratic establishment and is known as close to his fellow California native Nancy Pelosi, the House Speaker.
Johanna Maska, a longtime aide to Barack Obama, said she was not surprised that Democrats were starting to fly potential presidential candidates.
She said, “We need to prepare our bench, because at some point, the Democratic Party and the Republican Party will not be the party of Joe Biden and Donald Trump.”
