River in Cornwall turns ‘fluorescent green’ due to ‘harmless dye’

Part of a river turned “fluorescent green” after a “harmless dye” was used nearby, the Environment Agency has said.

It said it received a “number of calls from members of the public” on Saturday about the river in the Danescombe Valley, near Calstock, Cornwall.

It said the cause was a “fluorescent dye” which had been used to trace the pathway of drains.

The agency said it was “completely harmless”.

It added no reports had been received since Saturday at Danescombe Woods, so teams had “concluded” their investigations.
