A Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Officer is facing four charges, including assault with a weapon, according to an investigation by the province’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT-NL).
According to a press release Monday, Const. Noelle Laite, 33, is charged with assault, assault with a weapon, assault with bodily harm and choking.
In an email, an RNC spokesman called it a home attack investigation. The force said the charge is on administrative duties pending the outcome of the trial.
The charges relate to alleged incidents while she was not on duty, and are said to have taken place in the western Newfoundland city of Pasadena.
The news release, sent by SIRT-NL director Mike King, said the group was informed of the allegations on January 31 and began an investigation.
SIRT-NL is a civilian-led group that investigates incidents “involving serious injuries, death, sexual assault, domestic violence or any matter of major public interest arising from the actions of a Newfoundland and Labrador police officer,” the publication reads. .
King said SIRT-NL would not comment on the allegations or the investigation, and the RNC spokesman said they would not discuss the release.
Laite is due to appear in court on April 5.
