I-10 WB closed after semi-surrender, causing fuel spill at Chaffee Road

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A half turn on I-10 west just in front of Chaffee Road caused a fuel leak that closed Interstate when the Hazmat team was called to clean up the game and the crews worked to get the semi up again. Tuesday morning.

The accident was first reported by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue at about 5:45 p.m.

Three people were taken from the scene to the hospital, but it is believed that their injuries were not fatal.

JFRD said just after 7 a.m. that crews got the fuel game under control and would leave the scene. By 8 a.m., the crews were able to rebuild the halftime zone, so they were removed from the site and the tracks reopened.

JSO said just before 7am that the tracks were eastbound also on Hammond Boulevard and drivers were diverted to Hammond. On traffic cameras it turned out that some vehicles were still passing east, but some lanes were blocked due to a separate accident.

Later, it turned out that the lanes were reopened, but traffic remained slow eastward.

An alternative route that drivers can take is Hammond Boulevard on Beaver Street, though a crash has also been reported on this route since the detour began.

Drivers traveling west on I-10 may take the I-295 belt lane, but there is also a crash along this lane.

Drive carefully!
