Who’s Linda Carty? The only British woman to have been sentenced to death in the Western world

A new documentary that will be broadcast tonight on ITV, will meet Susanna Reid with the only British woman on the death penalty in the Western world. The 63-year-old Linda Carty has been waiting for her execution for two decades, and will be the main theme of the British grandmother on Death Row with Susanna Reid, which will be broadcast at 9pm.

Susanna Reid explained how Linda was finally confronted with the execution. She said: “British woman Linda Carty has spent almost twenty years in the death penalty.

“The court heard that Linda orchestrated the abduction of her pregnant neighbor, Joana Rodriguez, equipped with scrubs and scissors, as she intended to cut out the baby. Linda did not know that Joana had been there four days earlier. her baby had. Joana and her little baby were abducted and Joana was strangled to death. “

Linda is arrested in Texas, where Susanna travels to meet her. The grandmother continued to plead guilty for her innocence, repeatedly saying she was “not guilty” despite the substantial evidence against her.

The former schoolteacher was born in St Kitts, October 1958, when it was still a British colony. When Linda is executed, she will be the first woman to die on death row since Ruth Ellis, who was killed in 1955, and, it is believed, the first British black woman to be executed in over a century was.

In the 1980s, Linda emigrated as a citizen to the United States, where she studied pharmacology at the University of Houston. The murder for which she is currently on death row is not the only crime for which she was convicted, as Linda was convicted in the early 1990s for car theft and imitation of an FBI agent.

Linda was sentenced to ten years probation, on one condition – she worked as a drug informant. The crucial information she provided for the prosecution led to two arrests, but her role as informant came to an end when she was arrested for drug charges.

The British grandmother said during interviews with the media that a friend who worked for the Houston Police Department, and it was she who recruited them. She also claimed that her work for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) led to many traffickers being imprisoned, and the seizure of thousands of dollars worth of drugs.

As for the murder, for which she was convicted, prosecutors claim that Linda was so desperate for a baby, she wanted to kidnap Joana and keep baby Ray as her own. The case is not immediately available, with many questions about the validity of witnesses who testified against Linda during her trial.

Several applications for appeal were filed, and all were fruitless because Linda remains on death row. Susanna Reid will investigate the case on our screens this evening, with access to police suspects and key witnesses, Chris Robinson.

During the documentary, Susanna will be talking to Linda’s daughter, Jouvelle Joubert, who’s talking honestly about the struggle to wait for her mother’s execution, which she says she will not attend. Former Harris County District Attorney Lynn Hardaway recalls Linda’s conviction and says, “I have no doubt she is guilty of this crime; all evidence was consistent and had her as the lead candidate in orchestra of the entire crime.”

The barrister, Hugh Southey QC, has been fighting for the Linda release for the past decade. He claims that Linda did not have sufficient, high-quality representation in the murder process.
