Attack at Israel Shopping Center sees some killed, 4 reported killed

Four people were killed and several others were injured in a knife attack on a shopping mall in Israel on Tuesday.

A reporter with you Times of Israel the alleged death toll tweeted, adding that police said a suspect had been subdued. The alleged attack took place at the BIG shopping center of Beersheba, the Times reported.

The motive behind the deadly attack was not immediately confirmed, but police spokesman Eli Levy said on Channel 13 TV that it appeared to be carried out by “a single terrorist who went on a knife-edge spree”, according to Reuters.

Levy added that a civilian shot and killed the suspect.

Three of the four people killed in the attack were killed while the fourth person was hit by a car driven by the suspect, according to the Timeswhich quoted the head of Israel Ambulance Service.

Israeli media have identified the suspects as Arab citizens of Israel, Reuters reports.

Foreign Minister Yair Lapid took to Twitter to express his condolences to those affected by the attack.

Sends condolences to the families whose loved ones were killed in the shocking attack in Be’er Sheva. Wishing complete healing to the wounded. Anyone who tries on innocent citizens should know that the State of Israel will put it in place and invent the law with it.

Joint list chief Ayman Odeh tweeted on Tuesday that he was “in shock” to read about the knife attack.

“Violence is not our way and we must condemn it with all our might. My heart goes out to the families of those killed in their difficult times, and I send my best wishes to the injured,” the tweet read.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett also responded to the attack on Twitter, praising the “resourcefulness and courage” of the civilian who shot the suspect, saying security forces were “on high alert.”

“I send my deepest condolences to the families of those killed in the deadly attack. [Beersheba] and pray for the well-being of the injured, “he tweeted.

Similarly, Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked praised the civilian who subjugated the attacker. She describes the attacker as an “evil and inhuman terrorist.”

The attack was the latest in a recent series of riots across the nation, two of which took place last week. Two police officers were injured on Sunday in the Ras al-Amud neighborhood of East Jerusalem, while an adult man was injured on Saturday at Jerusalem’s first train station. Jerusalem Post reported.

Newsweek reached the Magen David Adom Ambulance Service for comment but did not hear of the release.
