Promising Australian footballer Declan Bingham died in a tragic accident on Saturday, in addition to his father’s business partner.
Troy Bingham, Declan’s father, confirmed the tragic news via social media channels of the Erie Sports Center in Pennsylvania, which he co-owns.
“It is with the heaviest heart that I confirm the loss of my partner and my son yesterday through a tragic accident. The impact is immense and we are busy dealing with the grief,” said Troy Bingham.
“The Erie Sports Center will remain open and further information will be posted soon. Rest in peace Declan Bingham and Sheldon VanDeventer.
Declan Bingham used to play football on the Gold Coast in Pennsylvania.
The exact circumstances of his death are not known.
Declan was in his mid-20s at the time of his death.
He played football for the Gold Coast Club Magic United in various age groups and divisions for several years.
“Magic United would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Bingham family,” the club said in a statement.
“Declan has played for various age groups at Magic over the years and, more recently, the senior men’s team.”
Declan played alongside his father, Troy, who is also a successful player, on the Magic United Reserve Team in 2015.
He lived in the United States for nearly seven years after moving to Erie, Pennsylvania to pursue a scholarship to Gannon University.
It was the same campus where his father Troy participated that won Hall-of-Fee status as a goal scorer, more than 30 years ago.
