The NBA continues to hold Julius Randle’s bank account.
Randle was fined $ 40,000 by the league on Tuesday for “targeting hostile language at a game officer” in Sunday’s loss to the Jazz. It marks the fourth time that Randle has been fined $ 130,000 this season. The Knicks were also fined $ 25,000 in January for not making Randle available to the media.
Randle, who did not play the game against the Hawks on Tuesday due to a painful right quadriceps tendon, was also fined $ 15,000 for a ball in the stands in October, $ 25,000 for profanity in a January press conference, and $ 50,000 earlier this month when he did not cooperate with the league’s investigation after he was ousted for Phoenix’s Cam Johnson.
Asked before the latest fine was announced over Randle’s current injury, Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said the team’s leader is every day.
“It’s just a little sore throat that he’s dealing with,” Thibodeau said. “Basically, probably rest is the only thing it will clarify.”
Kevin Knox earned even fewer minutes with the Hawks than he did with the Knicks before Jan. 13, which brought Cam Reddish to the Knicks.
Knox, the ninth overall pick in the 2018 draft, has appeared in 12 games for Atlanta, averaging 1.6 points and 6.4 minutes per appearance.
“I think it’s just a chance for him. We think he has the talent,” Hawks coach Nate McMillan said before the game. “He has the size to play the 3 or 4 positions. He played really limited minutes for us because he plays behind two forwards, both in that power-forward and small-forward position.
“So there were limited minutes for him to play. But we like that he’s on the list and when the opportunity presented itself, I tried to get him on the floor.
Charlotte’s protected 2022 first round pick was also sent by the Knicks to Atlanta in the deal. Reddish is out of season with a shoulder injury.
Derrick Rose (ankle) and Nerlens Noel (foot) also stayed out of the Knicks. The Hawks were without John Collins (finger / foot) and Lou Williams (personal reasons).
