A group of people planning to sell sweets were holding an elderly woman under gunfire as they ransacked their home in southern suburban Oak Lawn on Tuesday, according to police.
Authorities said the incident happened at 6:10 p.m. in the 4600 block of West 105th Place.
The homeowner picked up a ring at her door and was greeted by a woman wearing an orange or red coat “posing as if she were selling sweets,” Oak Lawn police said in a statement.
At the time, a man wearing a white T-shirt over a blue hoodie with a gun forced his way into her home, beating her to the ground, authorities said. When she was caught with a gun on the floor, a second man entered the house and the three people started searching it, according to police.
The group then fled the scene with a fourth person driving a white Kia Optima. They were last seen west on 105th Street toward Cicero Avenue, police said.
The elderly woman was slightly injured in the incident.
The group was seen on surveillance footage in the area, according to police, who released photos of the suspects in the alleged getaway car. The estimated age of the suspects was not immediately released by police.

“We are asking anyone who can help identify the perpetrator to contact the Oak Lawn Police Detective Division at (708) 907-4051,” police said in a statement. “Tips can also be sent by text to (708) 613-8477 and video can be shared at Oaklawn-Il.gov/camera-share.”
Nobody has been in custody since Wednesday morning.
