It’s National Chip and Dip Day: What style of dip do you like to grab your chips for?

CLEVELAND, Ohio – March 23 is celebrated as National Chip and Dip Day. Paired, these two have become a staple on parties and backs.

We can thank the British for coming up with the “crisp” what we Yanks like to call the potato chip.

According to Statisca, 284 million Americans consume potato chips each year – about 1.85 billion pounds of chips, or 6.6 pounds per person.

While the humble American chip industry started in a restaurant in Saratoga Springs, New York, it was Dayton-based Mikesell’s Potato Chip Co.

This year, the potato chip market is worth $ 40.3 billion in worldwide sales.

With all that popularity, it’s no surprise that we’re having a national holiday for our favorite snack food.

But really – is not a chip naked without a dip?

All kinds of dips – hummus, salsa, guacamole – have been around for centuries. And since 1954, the onion dips have dominated the grocery store refrigerators, making chips and dips a staple of the steak / holiday buffet.
