Trump backed Brooks in April 2021, when Brooks had a substantial double-digit lead in the polls. In a statement revoking his support, Trump said Brooks had “made a horrible mistake recently when he” woke up “” when he told people to leave the 2020 election “behind” during a rally last August. in Alabama.
“Because he decided to go in another direction, so did I, and I hereby withdraw my endorsement of Mo Brooks for the Senate,” Trump said in a statement. “I don’t think the big people in Alabama disagree with me. Last August, at the Alabama rally, Brooks received boos as he urged Alabama residents to move on from 2020.

An Alabama News and Gray Television poll released on Tuesday showed that 34.6% of Republican voters said they would choose retired Army helicopter pilot Mike Durant, while 28.4% would support Katie. Last August, the same poll showed that Brooks had the support of 40.8% of voters. During that time he had not yet entered the race.

A source related to Durant’s campaign said Durant met with Trump Monday in Mar-a-Lago, ahead of Trump’s announcement of Brooks’ support.
Brooks has also made positive comments about former Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions, whose relationship with Trump deteriorated after Sessions withdrew from the investigation into Russia. In a January radio interview, Brooks said Sessions was “one of the best senators we’ve ever had.”
