Jet2 plane forced to divert after “knocks out of control of other passengers”

A Jet2 flight from Manchester to Turkey was forced to switch to Vienna – almost 1500 miles from the destination – after a “out of control” woman was disturbed and other passengers were beaten during the flight

A plane was forced to divert after an “out of control” woman became aggressive and allegedly hit another passenger on board.

The Jet2 flight departs for Antalya, Turkey leaving Manchester on Monday morning at 9.15am – with an expected flight time of almost four and a half hours.

But as the flight was pushed over the halfway mark, an incident involving a “disruptive” passenger forced the pilot to divert to Vienna.

The passengers had to wait on board in the Austrian capital before leaving for Antalya for a second time at 13.00 – with the plane finally arriving at 15.00, Manchester Evening News reports.

A passenger on the flight – who asked not to be identified – explained how a female passenger became disturbed – causing “a lot of noise”.

They told the MEN: “You came in front of the plane. She was really angry at Jet2 staff and would not calm down.

“Her voice got louder and more aggressive – she screamed into people’s faces.

Passengers applauded how flight attendants handled the situation

“People said she was leaving the airport before she even got on the plane.

“Then some people said it was about babies crying on the flight.

“A customer said something and she punched him in the face.

“Then a man got up to try to calm the situation before taking her back to the plane.”

The passenger said that the staff then made the decision to direct the flight to Vienna.

When the plane landed, the woman is said to have hit another passenger as she boarded.

“This is the first time we’ve had to land because of someone on a flight,” the passenger added.

“Jet2 staff handled the whole situation very well.

“No one was able to help the uncontrolled woman after she hit the passenger.”

Jet2 sent an SMS to the passengers on board the flight just before 12 noon, apologizing for the incident.

The message said: “Hello, we regret that due to the disturbing behavior of a fellow citizen your flight to Vienna was diverted.

“We are working on a situation to get you on your way as quickly as possible.”

The flight left Vienna at 1pm before arriving in Antalya just after 3pm – an hour and 15 minutes later than planned.

Manchester Airport declined to comment on the situation, saying it would be a matter for the airline to comment.

In a statement, Jet2 confirmed the incident.

The flight operator also confirmed that the flight would continue successfully to Antalya after the passenger was unloaded.

A Jet2 spokesman told the MEN: “We can confirm that flight LS895 from Manchester to Antalya was diverted to Vienna earlier today so that a disruptive passenger could be unloaded.

“As a family-friendly airline, we have a zero-tolerance approach to disruptive behavior.”
