Aerobatics legends that Red Arrows have confirmed they will excite people in Cornwall this summer – but unfortunately only once this year. Aerial Display Aces have been so in demand this year, they have confirmed they can only be in Cornwall this summer during Falmouth Week.
The Red Arrows have announced a 49-date program for the UK in 2022 and while the famed aerobatics team will be in Devon four times, including three times in Torbay and once in Teignmouth, Cornwall will enjoy the display only once. Falmouth Week is scheduled for August with the Red Arrow over Falmouth Bay on Wednesday 10th.
The last time the Red Arrows were in Cornwall was during the G7 summit over Carbis Bay, as world leaders, including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, descended on Cornwall for the three-day summit. The show also marked the team’s first appearance in Cornwall since 2018.

The Red Arrows are seen as ambassadors for Britain, representing “Britain’s best”. This means that every Red Arrows pilot is selected on very strict criteria; they must have watched at least 1,500 flight hours, be judged to be above average within their flight role, and they must have completed one or more frontline tours.
The Red Arrows’ aerobatic display changes every year. The new 2022 display will be unveiled when it is successfully awarded to Public Display Authority – usually in May. The first half of a Red Arrows’ display consists of synchronized, formation aerobatics, followed by a more dynamic second half.
There are three types of display that the team leader can choose to fly – full, rolling or flat. To run a complete looping display, the base of the cloud must be above 5,500ft to prevent the aircraft from entering the cloud at the top of the loop.
If the cloud base is less than 5,500ft but more than 2,500ft, the team will run the rolling display – replacing the wing overs and rollers for the loops. And when the cloud base is below 2,500ft, the team flies the flat display, consisting of a series of flypasts and steep turns.
