Picture the scene: Police are called on gruesome reports a tiger is roaming the streets of Oldham.
A concerned resident said they saw a “tiger” in the garden in Greater Manchester and made the call Monday night.
Officials rushed to the scene to find him terrified – it’s just a stuffed animal.
After their laughter subsided, they decided to pick up the toy and name it ‘Tony the Tiger’, after the cartoon ad for Kellogg’s Frosties.
The Greater Manchester Police Oldham Central Division has posted on Facebook with the headline: ‘Concerns about well-being.’
The post reads: ‘Last night, Oldham Police earned their stripes when they were contacted by a concerned member of the public by a tiger that was lost in nearby gardens that appear in the grass.
“Officers arrived quickly and after evaluating the situation, they agreed that it was not really a real animal, but a toy – Tony The Tiger!
‘Tony the Tiger was asked for a comment on Oldham Police, he said, “They are grrrrrrrreat!”
“Tony is now safely booked into real estate at Oldham Police Station.”
Some people enjoyed the joke, with one person writing: ‘I bet everyone thought GMP could not handle this, but you showed them that you were Shere Khan.’
Another joked, ‘Was it a cereal perpetrator?’
Another added: ‘GMP, they are ggg great.’
This is not the only unusual incident that police have been dealing with in recent weeks.
A man was driving police on a speeding trip from London to Kent, and when he was finally caught, he was only able to produce a driving license from Legoland.
