Oleksandr Usyk left war-torn Ukraine to train for a rematch against Anthony Joshua in June.
The 35-year-old, who defeated Joshua in September to claim the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles, returned to Ukraine after the Russian invasion from Britain and signed to the army reserves. He has been living in his home in the suburbs of Kyiv with his family since his return, and uses the large basement of the house as a bomb shelter for his family and some friends.
Despite a rematch clause in the first contract, that fight seemed less and less likely due to the war in Ukraine. Eddie Hearn, the promoter, said he was willing to delay the rematch as long as Usyk wanted and watch
