Jarrod Spector is the star of this stage musical about the making and editing of the movie “Jaws”.
Tony-nominated Spector will portray Steven Spielberg in Bruce.
“Bruce” is a new movie based on Carl Gottlieb’s 1975 memoir, “The Jaws Log”. The preview starts on May 27th and an opening night will be held on June 8th. His name is a tribute to the 25-foot Great White Shark stars in “Jaws”.
The musical is about a young Spielberg, who is confronted with bad weather, dangerous water and hostile inhabitants. It also has an exploding budget, endless delays, and a dysfunctional Bruce trying to make “Jaws”.
Spector said it would be a great honor to portray “perhaps the greatest genius in filmmaking” and that the musical “goes beyond the group of brilliant artists who have faced every obstacle to creating this genre-defended masterpiece.” I hope Mr Spielberg is not disturbed that his singing voice sounds very much like mine.
“Bruce” features music by Richard Oberacker, story and lyrics by Robert Taylor, and is directed by Donna Feore.
Spector was born in Philadelphia and attended Princeton University. He also trained at the Atlantic Theater Company. Spector made his Broadway debut in the original production of “Les Miserables” as Gavroche. He also made a record 1,500 appearances in “Jersey Boys” as Frankie Valli.
