Heathrow must reduce its airline passenger charges every year through 2026, the Civil Aviation Authority has said.
Heathrow currently charges airlines £30.19 per passenger and the CAA says the cap on the average fee per passenger will drop to £26.31 in 2026.
Heathrow wanted to charge £41.95 to operate terminals, runways, baggage systems and security.
Both the airport and the airlines have the opportunity to appeal the decision to the competition authorities.
The fees are paid by the airlines, but can then be passed on to the passengers via the fares.
The CAA said the plan to reduce the fee “reflects the expected increase in passenger numbers as the recovery from the pandemic continues and the higher level of the fare cap in 2022, introduced in 2021 to address the challenges of the pandemic.” carry time”.
