John Waters spoke about cancellation culture and Johnny Depp in a new interview with the New York Times.
The 75-year-old film director, who worked with Depp on the 1990s “Cry-Baby,” was asked about his opinion of the actor as he was asked “when people pariah for things that are outside of work.”

“It’s good that we’re not going to be retroactive here, because practically all artists would be canceled.
“I have one thing about whom I would cancel: JK Rowling. Give her some preparation H for this transphobia,” he added, referring to the “Harry Potter” author’s controversial comments about the transgender community.
Waters continues, “What’s wrong with her? There are people I like to cancel, but at the same time I say it humorously.

He added, “I do not go through every person who has been fired and say what I think, but I have never seen Johnny Depp negatively in my entire life for acting like a woman – and I did drugs and drank with him.”
Depp lost his embarrassing case against the UK newspaper Sun in 2020 after being described in an article as a “woman beater”. The actor’s ex-wife Amber Heard has repeatedly accused him of abuse, something he denies.
