A teenager has completed 12 years of school with a 100% attendance rate.
Guy Crossland, 16, from Henlow, Bedfordshire, has not missed a day at his state primary and secondary schools even during lockdown, his mum said.
He studied at Our Lady Primary School in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, the John Henry Newman School in Stevenage and the Hitchin Boys’ School.
“I was just determined to keep going, even at times when I was under the weather,” he said.
“It was difficult, but it was very worth it and I’m just very grateful [I did it].”
His mother, Julia Crossland, said: “He’s a real soldier. I am very proud of him. It was up and down some mornings, but he always got there.
“It wasn’t always easy. The school world has changed radically during the pandemic. Guy has always been up and ready for his online classes during lockdown.”
She said to match her “unique” son’s record, she made sure all doctor’s appointments were booked outside of school hours.
He will receive his GCSE results in August and wanted to stay at Hitchin Boys’ School to do A levels in French, Spanish, Maths and Economics.
“I’m determined not to miss a day of high school,” he added.
