(CNN)Emma Raducanu had to retire from her first-round match at the Guadalajara Open with a hip injury.
Raducanu trailed Australia’s Daria Saville 5-7, 7-6, 4-3 and finished the match – which at three hours and 36 minutes was already the longest on the WTA Tour this season – shortly after treating during a time-out had been .
It was Raducanu’s first competitive match since the Australian Open, where she lost to Danka Kovinic in the second round after suffering from hand blisters.
Tuesday’s retirement means the 19-year-old has won just three of her eight games since her impressive win at the 2021 US Open.
World No. 1 Guadalajara No. 1 Raducanu had a chance to serve in the second set 5-3 for the match but Saville – ranked world No. 610 – broke back and forced an A tiebreak which they took 7-4 won.
It was Saville’s first WTA main draw win since the 2021 Australian Open, the WTA said.
Saville also looked to be struggling with an injury in the second set but fought back to claim one of the biggest wins of her career.
