Country superstar Dolly Parton and prolific best-selling author James Patterson have teamed up in a new thriller. Set in Nashville, “Run, Rose, Run” tells the story of a country singer who discovers that the music industry can be as heartbreaking as the secret she carries. Parton would like to participate in the film version of the book, he tells Lee Cowan in an interview for “CBS Sunday Morning,” which airs March 6 on CBS and airs on Paramount +.
In the book, published on March 7, the young emerging singer is comforted by a retired country icon. “I hope to be able to play this character when we make a movie out of the book, which we hope to do, at some point,” Parton told Cowan.
Cowan sits down with Parton and Patterson to talk about their collaboration and the new original songbook that is being released along with the book.
Patterson introduced the concept behind “Run, Rose, Run” to Parton in 2019. The book is both a celebration and a warning story about the music business.
“It shows a lot of the dark side of that,” Parton said. “People who have been there, like me, you know, because you’ve been through it.”
“Did you experience a lot of that? Some of which are in the book?” Cowan asked Parton.
“Oh, yes,” Parton replied. “You see all this. All the managers who … people who scam you, try to steal your songs, trick you, do whatever it takes. I’ve seen it all.”
