Have you ever wanted to go back in time to do a renovation?
In the new Netflix movie “The Adam Project,” Ryan Reynolds is Adam Reed, a future-time fighter pilot who crashes back into Earth in 2022 and meets the person who has been trying for years overcome: his 12 years. me for a year.
Reynolds, 45, also produced the film, along with director Shawn Levy. For both of them, the story was irresistible.
“That idea of, if you could go back and meet your inner child, really know who I was, what would it be like?” said Levy. “How would this be for you? How would this be for this child?”
In the film, both versions of Adam have the opportunity to make peace with their lost father, played by Mark Ruffalo. For real-life Reynolds, the idea of settling emotional baggage with the father is very close to home.
Reynolds is the youngest of four boys in Vancouver, Canada. His father was a former police officer who steered a very tight boat. “I don’t want to paint this image that was this, like a horrible place to grow up. But it was very tense,” he said.
Correspondent Tracy Smith asked, “Because of your father?”
“Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me. And, you know, as an adult, that can be very helpful. “
Reynolds has starred in more than three dozen films, and being a sensitive boy often made him play the sensitive type, like “The Proposal” from 2009, alongside Sandra Bullock. But if romantic comedies put Reynolds on the Hollywood map, “Deadpool” is what made him a global superstar. The 2016 film, featuring Reynolds as a masked superhero with a mask, was a monstrous success, but only after he stayed in limbo for years.
Smith asked, “You struggled for over a decade to make this film. What have you said to yourself over the years?”
“You know, it wasn’t like I was pulling out a broad sword and heading for the hill to fight back among the executives,” he said. “It was, a new leadership would come in, and I would go singing and dancing.”
“But wasn’t there a time when you thought, ‘Okay, I’ll stop singing and dancing, like this isn’t going to happen to me’?”
“Yeah. I think it was about a year and a half before we got the green light for the movie.”
But before giving up completely, this test image of the film was leaked to the Internet:
Fans went crazy, and this helped convince moviegoers to give Reynolds approval to make the film. “Deadpool” I and II earned more than $ 1.5 billion at the box office. But Reynolds says that, like his character in the movies, his self-confidence is just an act.
Smith asked, “So you’ve talked about fighting anxiety.”
“Uh-huh. Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like Al that sounds crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either.
“When I came out, like ‘Letterman,’ in my day, I was nervous. But I remember standing behind the scenes before the curtain opened, and I thought to myself, ‘I’m going to die.’ I will literally die here. The curtain will open and I’ll just be, I’ll just be a symphony of vomit “, just like, something horrible will happen! But as soon as the curtain opens. – and that also happens a lot in my job – it’s like If this little guy takes over, he’ll say, “I see, you’re great.” : “God, I’d love to be this guy!”
“Wow. Would I love to be that guy, that Ryan Reynolds guy?“
“Sure. Yes. Maybe no one else would!”
In addition to his flourishing moving career, Reynolds also has business interests such as a mobile phone company, a gin maker and a Welsh football team. And his recent film “Free Guy” was a huge success.
It was the first time she had worked with director Shawn Levy, after a famous friend insisted that they meet.
Smith asked, “Your wedding was Hugh Jackman? “
“We met on the dating site, hugh.com,” Reynolds said.
Levy said: “He told me that if I ever met Ryan and worked with Ryan, we would never stop. And from the moment we met ‘Free Guy’, they were gangbusters.”
They actually live in New York and have a few other things in common. Reynolds, with his wife, actress Blake Lively, have three daughters; Levy and his wife, Serena, have four.
Smith asked Levy, “You said you were a neighbor by chance. You’ve moved all over the country, haven’t you?”
“He followed me here, yes,” Reynolds interposed.
“Well, I’ll never admit that I moved across the country to be closer to him,” Levy said.
“My rearview mirror includes Shawn Levy!”
“But if I make a few great movies out of it, it’s worth it!”
Reynolds said, “Who travels East, too? Like, you’re the opposite of the Donner party, guys, except you’ve all got it. “
“Give us time,” Levy said.
And while he may not be able to travel in time, Reynolds has come a long way.
Smith asked, “Did you mention that if your 12-year-old self could see you now, what would he think? Do you take a moment to step back and look where you are? And if so, what to do. you think? “
“Yes, I think my 12-year-old self would be proud of me,” Reynolds replied, “because I do this in a way that has some integrity. I like to think that this 12-year-old would look at where I am. “We’re fine,” I think.
