The four-part HBO Max limited series is based on a DC comic and is produced and directed by Ava DuVernay.
In the show, the United States enters a second civil war as a group called the Free States of America fights the rest of the country.
New York City has no government and is overrun by criminal gangs.
Dawson plays Alma, a woman searching for her missing son in Manhattan.
In addition to Dawson, the series also stars Benjamin Bratt, Venus Ariel, Freddy Miyares, Hoon Lee, and Jade Wu.
“DMZ” starts March 17 on HBO Max. Like HBO, CNN is owned by WarnerMedia.
