Artists inspired to create works about the war in Ukraine say it’s a “powerful tool” to make people think.
Street artist Steve “Jenks” Jenkins said he felt there wasn’t much he could do thousands of miles away in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, but “putting a bit of color on a wall could show support”.
“It’s a great way to get messages across to people,” he said.
“And you can take in something in the blink of an eye and it makes you think and awakens things in you.
“It’s a powerful tool.”
Ebbw Vale pop artist Nathan Wyburn said, “Art not only documents time, but can sometimes help convey a message that words cannot.”
Art historian Joanna Burke von Birkbeck, University of London, said artists have “a powerful way of communicating, much more powerful than news broadcasts”.
