Boots is changing how its loyalty card works, offering discounts on more of its own-brand products, but reducing the monetary value of the points.
The health and beauty retailer said Advantage cardholders would earn 3p worth of points for every £1 spent from May, instead of 4p.
The move comes as many retailers’ costs soar amid record increases in energy bills and overheads.
Boots said the move was in response to customer feedback.
It added that customers could save 10% in-store on 6,000 of its own-brand products.
It said customers would also save on hundreds of products with the savings program to “take things a little further”. The price advantage gives Boots cardholders exclusive access to lower prices on certain products.
On its website, Boots said: “We know more and more customers are looking for instant savings, so offering 10% off our Boots private label range offers even more opportunities to save.
“We understand that many customers still love saving their points for large purchases in the future, so we will continue to offer points worth 3p for every £1 spent at Boots.”
The retailer said points earned through May 23 would not change in monetary value.
It also said students would continue to receive a 10% store-wide discount alongside the additional 10% for Boots branded products.
Recent research suggests that shoppers have been moving away from branded products at certain retailers and opting for store-brand equivalents to save money at the checkout as inflation — the rate at which prices are rising — hits record highs.
