A London family, who have self-published a book and cartoon on black representation, have commissioned a TV series on Sky.
Cynthia and Anthony Deluola, of Ghanaian and Nigerian descent, impressed the producers with books they self-published and an animated film they made in their spare time because their daughter Elise didn’t have characters like themselves in print or on screen at the time could find she was five years old.
The family was involved in every aspect of the production, from writing to costumes. “We wanted to keep it very authentic. We’re a thriving black family, we’re trying to break down barriers, break down stereotypes, we’re so proud of what we’ve accomplished.”
