Amazon increases starting pay for UK workers again

Amazon is raising wages for its UK workers again as it struggles to recruit amid labor shortages.

The online shopping giant said its minimum starting wage will rise to between £11 and £12 an hour from April to 50p, depending on location.

It comes a week after Amazon workers went on strike in Coventry demanding higher wages to keep up with the rising cost of living.

Companies like Costa Coffee and Tesco have also made payroll payments recently.

Amazon’s latest hike will take effect when a new national living wage rate is introduced. It is set to increase by 9.7% to £10.42 an hour for people over 23.

An Amazon spokesman said: “We regularly review our pay to ensure we are offering competitive wages.”
