An investigation into sexual misconduct at one of Britain’s biggest business lobby groups has been widened after new allegations surfaced.
The Confederation of British Industry is at the center of allegations published by the Guardian detailing alleged wrongdoing by individuals.
The law firm of Fox Williams is overseeing the expanded investigation.
“The CBI has treated and continues to treat all matters of workplace conduct with the utmost seriousness,” it said.
“That’s why, last month, we commissioned an in-depth investigation into all the allegations brought to our attention by an independent law firm.”
Referring to the allegations by women against CBI figures, a spokesman for the lobby group added: “It would undermine this important process and hurt and hurt everyone involved if they commented on these allegations at this point.”
“We will not hesitate to take any necessary action once the investigation is complete.”
Since early March, Fox Williams has been investigating separate allegations against Tony Danker, the CBI’s director general, who has since resigned, and the group’s chief resigning following allegations of misconduct.
It is understood that the new claims published in the Guardian do not relate to Mr Danker, who became director-general in late 2020.
After the allegations surfaced, Fox Williams’ investigation has now been expanded.
The CBI advocates for around 190,000 companies that employ millions of people.
