‘Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney joins Marvel’s’ Madame ‘Web’ movie – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: After an outbreak year that included starring roles in HBOs The white lotus in the Euphoria, Sydney Sweeney is now ready to jump into Sony’s universe of Marvel characters. Sources tell the Deadline that she’s joined Dakota Johnson at Sony Pictures Madame Web. SJ Clarkson is on board to rule the picture. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay, while Kerem Sanga also wrote an earlier draft.

In the comics, Madame Web is depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and was thus connected to a life support system that looks like a spider web. Because of her age and medical condition, Ms. Web never actively fought against evil. For this reason, sources stressed that it is possible that the project could turn into something else. Insiders say because of her psychic sensory powers, she’s basically Sony’s version of Doctor Strange. It is unknown who Sweeney plays in the film.

Sony is coming off a hot track Venom: Let there be carnage make more than $ 500 million worldwide, meanwhile Spider-Man: No Way Home was the largest film of 2021 with $ 1.85 billion in worldwide sales.

Not only is Sweeney at one of the hottest shows of the year Euphoria (HBO recently announced that it’s the network’s second most watched show behind only Game of Thrones), She has clearly emerged as one of the big winners of this season and has quickly jumped to the top of all major studio lists for young rising stars. Sources say Sweeney has won several bids in recent weeks, but the opportunity for Johnson to participate in what would be the first female-centered film in this universe is too good to be true.

Sweeney had a busy 12 months, starting with her scene-stealing role in another hit HBO series White lotus. On the movie page, she had starring roles De Voyeurs for Amazon and Blumhouse’s Nocturne. She is currently turning to Tony Tost’s National anthem, which also stars Simon Rex and Halsey.
