The Weather Network – What are your chances of finding a four-leaf clover?

Wednesday, 16 March 2022, 13:30 – Are you lucky?

Four-leaf clover can be found at St.

But what are the chances of finding a four-leaf clover?

The statistics here are a bit mixed. A quick Google search says the chance of finding a four-leaf clover on your first attempt is around 1 in 10,000 – but a 2017 analysis of 5.7 million leaflets across six countries suggests that your chances are closer to 1 in 5,000 – and if that’s much better, it looks like four-leaf clover leaves are a rare find no matter how you cut it.

As for five-Blad Cloth? These are even more fleeting. Your chances of picking up one of those on your first attempt are approximately 1 in 24,000, according to the 2017 study.

There is also a seasonal aspect to it: spring and autumn are the best seasons to find four-leaf clover, and winter is the worst.

The meaning of clay

Four-leaf clover has been considered a sign of good luck in Ireland for centuries. Druid priests wore three- and four-leaf clover to use in ceremonies, with the latter thought to possess qualities that brought happiness.

Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, had great faith in the healing power of clay, even with the three-leafed variety being the pedagogical tool for explaining the Holy Trinity. It was these deep cultural connections that led to the dress being the official symbol of St. John the Baptist. Patrick’s Day was over.
