Transport Secretary Robert Courts told the House of Commons he was “genuinely upset” at the way P&O Ferries employees were sacked without notice and escorted off their ships.
He told management the treatment of “hard-working, dedicated employees” was “completely unacceptable”.
Mr Courts said he would ask unions and Department for Works and Pensions staff to support workers who have lost their jobs.
