CNN host Erin Burnett burst into tears as he interviewed a Ukrainian man who learned about the deaths of his wife and children after seeing a photo of her lifeless body online.
Serhiy Perebyinis, who learned that his loved ones had been killed by a Russian assassin after seeing a dramatic photo that appeared in the New York Times, appeared on Burnett’s nightly show “Out Front” on Wednesday.
Burnett asked Perebyinis – who is fighting against Russian soldiers occupying his country at the time his wife, son and daughter were killed – if he had buried his loved ones.
After telling Burnett that he had buried his family, she told him, “Serhiy, as a parent, every person in the whole world can not imagine that you will lose your unbearable loss, especially your children.”
Burnett, the mother of three young children, has grown emotionally.
“Can you tell me about them?” she said, back in tears.
“We saw each other with my wife on Google Maps, and that morning I noticed that there was an unusual geolocation between Kyiv and her ping and then, 20 minutes later, her phone was moved to another location, to a hospital. in Kyiv and I suspected something was wrong, “said Perebyinis.
“And I asked my friends to come to the hospital and find out if there was any bad news, and then Twitter, there was news on Twitter … there was mortality and that a family died: two children, their mother and her father. ”
He added: “And then I saw a photo on Twitter and I recognized my kids. I recognized their things and their clothes.
“And I called my friends to say, ‘The children are dead.’ Her corpses are lying on the sidewalk, “and I asked her,” Can you help me find my wife? “
Burnett, visibly crying, asked Perebyinis what he remembered about his children.
“If anyone who watches could learn something about Alyssa and the kids, what do you want them to know?” she asked.
Perebyinis replied, “They were normal kids. My son was older. He was 18 and he was in his second year of college. He wanted to become an IT professional. Started programming.”
“And my daughter was 9 years old and she loved to dance, to paint. She studied English.
“They were normal, funny kids.”
Ukrainian officials have said at least 103 children were killed during the Russian invasion, although the actual number is much higher.
