Ahead of the Producers Guild of America awards ceremony tonight, the annual breakfast with nominees for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award at the Skirball Cultural Center.<\/p>\n

The panel of the panel, moderated by PGA President Lisa Fisher, was Steven Spielberg, nominated as one of the producers for his musical “West Side Story”.<\/p>\n

During the interview, the two-time Oscar-winning director – for “Schindler’s List” (1993) and “Saving Private Ryan” (1998) – shared with the audience that he has never conducted another musical in his career, although he “will be a producer on He is currently co-producing the musical adaptation of “The Color Purple” with Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks in the lead roles. won first DGA Award, although he did not nominate an Oscar for Best Director.<\/p>\n

The support given by streaming giant Netflix was also a common point of discussion among its three nominated films.<\/p>\n

Tanya Seghatchian was applauded for the brilliance of her production team, especially by “Power of the Dog” director and writer Jane Campion. The rights to the Thomas Savage novel have gone through several hands over the last 55 years, including the classic actor Paul Newman, who would play the main character Phil Burbank, portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch in the last film.<\/p>\n

Julie Oh’s Charisma spoke most brightly on stage, talking about the journey to bring composer Jonathan Larson’s stage musical: “There’s a reason there’s a Wikipedia page for development hell.”<\/p>\n

Oh was on one of only five performances that took place in New York with Lin-Manuel Miranda. She was initially unaware of the show and was surprised that the rights were available.<\/p>\n

Kevin Messick spoke in “Don’t Look Up” about “urgency for climate change” and how Adam McKay wrote the film with Jennifer Lawrence in mind. Strongest was his response to the roughest day of production; “The worst day was January 7,” referring to the attacks of the insurrection on the Capitol.<\/p>\n

Todd Black said he wanted to make a film about Lucille Ball’s life in 1995, but the comedian’s children did not want it back then. He also shared that he knew “Aaron Sorkin was the right man to write it” about the eight-year journey to get the film made.<\/p>\n

Philippe Rousselot began his opening remarks by acknowledging the strong year for movies. Discussing the journey to get “CODA” made, and eventually selling it to Sundance for a record $ 25 million to Apple, he said, “It was the most extraordinary journey of my producer’s life.”<\/p>\n

Mary Parent looked at the rights to “Dune” through different hands, waiting for the right opportunity to seize the moment. That moment came after a few “hard passes” from various studios. It was during the shooting of “Godzilla” (2014) that she brought the production to Alex Garcia, sold the project to Legendary in 2013. She also talked about seeing an interview with Denis Villeneuve, where the director shared has that he abolished to help an adaptation. of the famous novel since he was 14 years old, knew at that moment that she had found her director.<\/p>\n

Branagh also recalled showing his family the semi-autobiographical “Belfast”: “It was enormous insecurity. The hardest moment was to show this personal story about my family, my family. My brother said that things, which I say happened to me, happened to him.<\/p>\n
