The Detroit Pistons will have an eye on the NCAA Tournament today as potential # 1 pick Chet Holmgren for the Gonzaga Bulldogs will be in action.<\/p>\n

There is no consensus # 1 this season, but Holmgren is possibly the closest, as he has a rare combination of size and skill that could ultimately be the prototype for the modern NBA grand.<\/p>\n

He can handle the ball, shoot efficiently from all three levels, and protect the rim like everyone else in college basketball this season, so he definitely gets a bit of consideration for the number one pick overall, especially when the Detroit Pistons stop there.<\/p>\n

The claps against Holmgren are his size and the fact that he has not played much elite competition at Gonzaga this season.<\/p>\n

His size does not bother me because he will make strength in the NBA and he has not been injured so far in his young career.<\/p>\n

As for the elite competition, Holmgren gets his chance at the NCAA Tournament, starting today, when he will face off against another of the top center prospects in the 2022 NBA Draft.<\/p>\n

Pistons’ draft: Chet Holmgren has to prove himself against Memphis<\/h2>\n

Chet Holmgren will have to cut his job for him against Memphis because they have two strong, athletic bigs, the kind of players that some critics worry Holmgren will not be able to handle.<\/p>\n

The Tigers show Jalen Duren, who could be an option for the Pistons if they fall to 7th, and DeAndre Williams, a 6-foot-8 senior who plays physically and could be given the task of beating Holmgren today .<\/p>\n

Holmgren does not think of himself as a back-to-the-sket center in the NBA, but a guy who possibly plays power forward, works in a perimeter on the offensive and has a shot blocking presence from the weak side in defense. .<\/p>\n

But he needs to show that he can handle physical strikers in centers, especially at the defensive end, where his size could be an issue in the post.<\/p>\n

A strong play by Holmgren today would soothe many of those fears, as Duren and Williams both have NBA bodies and play a physical style.<\/p>\n

If Chet can move circles around them on insults and keep from bullying on the other end, it helps his case to be the number one general choice.<\/p>\n
