CHRIS KAMARA said he was suffering from apraxia of the speech after he raised concerns with a performance on football Saturday.\n<\/p>\n
The Sky Sports presenter and former football player, 64, appeared to be hitting his words while on screen this weekend, and asked viewers to report him on social media.\n<\/p>\n
Kamara said on Twitter that he developed speech disorder in addition to an existing thyroid problem.\n<\/p>\n
He wrote: “Just wanted to let some of you know who tweeted me today that I’m ok ish.\n<\/p>\n
\u201cIn addition to my thyroid problem, I developed apraxia of speech and worked to get my speech back to normal.\n<\/p>\n
“Some days it can be a little slow and some days it’s normal. Hopefully I can beat this!”\n<\/p>\n
Kamara’s Soccer Saturday co-presenter Jeff Stelling replied: “@chris_kammy You still bring life, energy, fun and understanding to all your reports on Soccer Saturday.\n<\/p>\n
“We all love you friend. Do not let yourself be subdued!”\n<\/p>\n
Olympic gold medalist hockey player Sam Quek and former football player Viv Anderson were also among those who sent messages of support.\n<\/p>\n
Kamara had previously done a brain scan to check if he was developing dementia after falling under what he described as a “brain haze”.\n<\/p>\n
He worried that the illness could be linked to his head as a footballer.\n<\/p>\n
However, his symptoms were explained by an underactive thyroid gland for which he is now being treated.\n<\/p>\n
As well as his career on the field and on the small screen, Kamara is also a singer who has released two Christmas albums and a charity single.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
