The Chicago Blackhawks officially began their reconstruction as they traded young striker Brandon Hagel along with two fourth-round picks on the Tampa Bay Lightning. They landed themselves a fantastic comeback as they added Tampa’s 2023 and 2024 first-round picks, Boris Katchouk, and Taylor Raddysh. Even if they miss having the Saskatoon Native on their list, this is about as good a return as they could get for it. However, this might just be the beginning of the team’s fire sales, as trade rumors are circulating regarding some of their players.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Blackhawks having a myriad of rental candidates, their big name players even grew up in trade talks. Let us now discuss some of what is being said in the busy time of year of the league. <\/span><\/p>\n

When one star moves forward, another could follow<\/h2>\n

According to Brian Lawton, if one is traded by Patrick Kane or Alex DeBrincat, the other will be moved as well. The first general election of 1983 did not specify when exactly these potential blockbusters could happen, but it certainly raised many eyebrows around the league. With the Blackhawks trading hail for the massive return and General Manager (GM) Kyle Davidson committed to a rebuild, that does not seem to be out of the question.<\/p>\n

If Lawton is right and these two are officially made available, they will surely get a lot of trade offers. DeBrincat has grown into a top-of-the-line sharpshooter in recent years, and this season is no different. In 62 games he has 34 goals with 21 assists. Kane, on the other hand, does not let daddy catch him just because he has 19 goals and 50 assists in 58 games. Needless to say, if either of these two are eventually dealt, the Blackhawks will get an assortment of first-round picks and top prospects.<\/p>\n

Kane has full control over future with organization<\/h2>\n

Although Lawton reported this, any trade with Kane would not happen at least the offseason. Even though the Blackhawks traded the hail, he told his teammates that he was not ready to be traded at the moment, according to David Pagnotta. Fortunately for him, this takes away any chance that he will be traded before the deadline because he has a clause with no motion.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, when we get to the offseason, the Blackhawks are expected to have talks with Kane about his future with the organization. With the team embarking on a full reconstruction, he’s exactly the kind of veteran the team might be up for in trade, as he would land them a massive return. However, any movement that centers around him must first be approved by him. At this point, this is the biggest hurdle limiting this specific blockbuster.<\/p>\n

Trading DeBrincat brings up debate<\/h2>\n

Unlike Kane, DeBrincat can be moved at any time. The 24-year-old has no movement without a clause, so he is much easier to act than the former. He certainly has an attractive contract, as he carries a $ 6.4 million annual cap hit until the end of the 2022-23 campaign and will be a limited free agent (RFA) when it expires. So, any team he bought in a blockbuster would still have complete control over him.<\/p>\n

Even if the Blackhawks sell, they should think very carefully about DeBrincat’s future with the team. Scorers of his skill do not come around too often. With him still so young, he could be a big part of her build-up. However, one could also argue that the team should replace him if it gives them a massive return. When they see how the hail got them two voters in the first round, they get an even more ridiculous package for their top goalscorers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wilds were already very active, as they had already bought Tyson Jost and Nicolas Deslauriers. These are two solid additions to the postseason, but it’s clear they’re looking for an online upgrade to increase their chances of winning the Stanley Cup. Cam Talbot is their starting lineup and has had mixed results this season, as he has a 24-12-1 record, 2.92 goal-versus-average (GAA), and .907 save percentage (SV%). Kaapo Kahkonen, on the other hand, has a 12-8-3 record, 2.87 GAA, and .910 SV%. So, none have been necessarily bad, but also not particularly reliable. So it makes sense that they want to add the reigning Vezina Trophy winner.<\/p>\n

Nevertheless, the Blackhawks can not only have a very busy trading season, but also a busy offseason. The reconstruction is officially upon them, and it will be interesting to see what happens with these three great players from here.<\/p>\n
