In hugely dramatic scenes in Emmerdale tonight we will see Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) take a massive hit. April (Amelia Flanagan) discovers her father at home, barely aware after falling ill when he returns to get Rhona (Zoe Henry)’s engagement ring. <\/p>\n

Spectators will see happiness and absolute horror for Marlon as the joy of his and Rhona’s joint marriage proposal with him is barely conscious and he fights for his life.<\/p>\n

What happens to Marlon?<\/h2>\n

Out of the blue, Marlon has a life-changing blow. Mark Charnock described the scenes on Metro.co.uk. <\/p>\n

‘There was no set-up, really. He sees himself in the mirror and his face is completely down on the right side. <\/p>\n

“He collapsed and was really frozen, he can not really move. As you can imagine, he is covered in terror.”<\/p>\n

When April finds him, Mark says \u2018This is a really traumatic moment. It’s traumatic for him to see her like that. It’s awful for her, awful for him. He is completely incapable. ‘<\/p>\n

April’s quick action to call an ambulance may have saved Dad’s life, as he was rushed to hospital and had to undergo immediate surgery.<\/p>\n

Emmerdale chef Laura Shaw said this is just the beginning of a storyline that will have an impact on the Dingles for the entire year and into next year. <\/p>\n

The show is committed to explaining the sequel to Marlon’s hit in realistic detail, which Mark Charnock also confirmed. <\/p>\n

“He will not get where he wants for a long time,” the actor says. ‘We’re just at the beginning of his journey. <\/p>\n

“He can no longer work, he feels, wrong, that he can no longer be the father he wants, which is all to him, because of his inability.”<\/p>\n

What causes a stroke?<\/h2>\n

Juliet Bouverie OBE, CEO of the Stroke Association, says: \u201cMost of the things that cause a stroke are due to lifestyle factors – smoking, being overweight, being physically inactive, eating too much salt, all the things that make arteries clogging them is more likely to cause a blood clot or bleeding. <\/p>\n

‘The single biggest risk factor is high blood pressure, so it’s always worth checking BP because it can be a silent killer. The other medical risk factor is an irregular heartbeat called atrial fibrillation. <\/p>\n

‘Again, it’s important to get this checked, because if you have a stroke caused by AF, it can be a more serious and disabling stroke. <\/p>\n

“So I think our biggest message is to adopt a healthy lifestyle, because these factors increase your risk of having a stroke and get your bp tested regularly.”<\/p>\n
