The government has confirmed its transport subsidy package, says the Kiwis will help navigate through the current global energy crisis.<\/p>\n

Transport Minister Michael Wood announced on Tuesday that road tolls will be reduced by 36 percent for a three-month period from late April to late July.<\/p>\n

The latest move is in addition to the 25 cents per liter fuel tax reduction, as well as half prices for public transport for three months from 1 April.<\/p>\n

Wood said the reduced road use costs were a move to support the supply of food and other essential goods across the country.<\/p>\n

“It was important for the government that we supported them [road transport] Industry through these challenging times, “Wood said.<\/p>\n

“As a government, we are committed to supporting public transport. By halving the tariffs we can directly reduce the transport costs for households and those who can, encourage, replace their current car journeys with public transport which is easily accessible The reduction in public transport prices also gives households more money to manage the rising cost of living, which is affected by fuel prices.<\/p>\n

However, not all public transport will lower their fares.<\/p>\n

The Waiheke, Devonport and Rakino ferry services to Auckland, the Wellington Cable Car, and the Cook Strait ferry are among the non-subsidized services.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
