Energy websites have plummeted as customers rush to submit meter readings ahead of Friday’s bills hike.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Suppliers such as Shell Energy and EDF said they are working to resolve issues with their websites and apps. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Experts have encouraged people to submit metrics so their usage is covered by the currently cheaper plans. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

On Friday, the energy price cap \u2013 the maximum price utilities in England, Wales and Scotland can charge households \u2013 will be raised.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

A Shell Energy spokesman said: “Our website is experiencing disruption as we deal with an increase in the number of customers trying to access their accounts. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“Our teams are working hard to keep it online and we thank customers for their patience.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    A spokesman for EDF said it was also aware of technical issues affecting its website and app when customers attempted to submit meter readings. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    “We are working hard to resolve this issue and would encourage our customers to try again later and apologize for any inconvenience this causes,” he said. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n

    Justina Miltienyte, head of policy at comparison site Uswitch.com, said customers who are having trouble submitting a meter reading should try again later or take a photo of their reading with the date stamp visible as proof.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
