{"id":3891,"date":"2022-03-04T17:20:04","date_gmt":"2022-03-04T17:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tahrir2day.com\/news\/2022\/03\/04\/fitbit-recalls-ionic-watch-following-skin-burns\/"},"modified":"2022-03-04T17:20:04","modified_gmt":"2022-03-04T17:20:04","slug":"fitbit-recalls-ionic-watch-following-skin-burns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tahrir2day.com\/news\/2022\/03\/04\/fitbit-recalls-ionic-watch-following-skin-burns\/","title":{"rendered":"Fitbit recalls Ionic watch following skin burns"},"content":{"rendered":"<div >\n<p ><b >Fitbit has recalled one of its fitness-tracking smartwatches over the risk of it overheating and burning people.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >The company, which is now owned by Google, said it issued a voluntary recall of the Fitbit Ionic watch.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >People who bought the device will get a $299 (\u00a3225) refund and a discount on a replacement product.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >The Fitbit Ionic was manufactured between 2017 and 2020 and sold around 1.7 million units internationally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >None of its other fitness trackers are affected by the recall.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Fitbit had received more than 170 reports of the lithium battery in its Ionic watch overheating.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >The CPSC said it was aware of 78 reports of burn injuries in the US, including two reports of third-degree burns from an overheated battery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >A third-degree burn is a severe burn that destroys the skin and can damage underlying tissue.  A skin graft is often required.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >The CPSC said there were 40 known burn injuries internationally.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >In a statement, Fitbit said, &#8220;Customer safety is always Fitbit&#8217;s top priority, and as a precaution, we are voluntarily recalling Fitbit Ionic smartwatches.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >It said the number of reports of watches overheating accounted for &#8220;less than 0.01% of units sold.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div >\n<p >Fitbit Ionic owners can find more information on the Fitbit website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fitbit has recalled one of its fitness-tracking smartwatches over the risk of it overheating and burning people.
