United […]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[54],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-46132","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-sport"],"yoast_head":"\nThe 37-year-old is unhappy with his current club’s position and appears to be in search of a new adventure that can fulfill his dream of playing in the Champions League. <\/p>\nUnited say they have no plans to sell but peace talks between the two camps have reportedly collapsed this week as Ronaldo’s heart is set on playing at the highest level while he still can. <\/p>\nBut despite being one of the greatest players to ever play the game, Ronaldo’s options seem limited. <\/p>\nAccording to widespread reports, Atl\u00e9tico Madrid was a potential target but not everyone at the Spanish club was happy with the possibility. <\/p>\nRonaldo is a legend at Atl\u00e9tico’s arch-rivals Real Madrid and although the club rejected the potential transfer, his fans have expressed their displeasure at the prospect of signing the striker.<\/p>\nSupporters unfurled banners at a pre-season game against Numancia on Wednesday – reading ‘CR7 not welcome’. <\/p>\nBayern Munich was another option after selling its star striker Robert Lewandowski, but that door now seems closed after Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn said the club had decided not to go ahead with the deal. <\/p>\n“We came to the conclusion that despite all the appreciation for Cristiano, he would not have fit into our philosophy in the current situation,” Kahn told Sport Bild.<\/p>\n\n\n\nManchester United standoff <\/h3>\n<\/p>\n
Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions for United last season in what was otherwise a very disappointing season for the club; it fell far short of Champions League qualification and lacked any sense of identity.<\/p>\nNew manager Erik Ten Hag has been tasked with turning things around at the sleeping giant and has publicly said he plans a life with Ronaldo. <\/p>\n“I’m looking forward to working with him. Cristiano is not for sale. He’s in our plans. We want to succeed together,” the manager said earlier this month, despite Ronaldo missing the entire pre-season tour due to family issues. <\/p>\nThere’s no doubting Ronaldo’s ability to score goals, but it seems his age and huge salary demands are factors deterring the biggest clubs from a potential move. <\/p>\nMany are also wondering if the Portuguese star is capable of fitting into different team philosophies, including Ten Hag’s demanding style of play. <\/p>\nAs the season opener draws closer – United take on Brighton on August 7 – their stalemate with the Red Devils will have to ease somewhat. <\/p>\nFans can only hope that the latest transfer saga doesn’t mar his legacy at the club. <\/p>\n
