(CNN)<\/cite>Miami Marlins pitcher Daniel Castano was hit in the head by a 104-mph line drive from the bat of Cincinnati Reds third baseman Donovan Solano in Thursday’s first inning of the game.<\/p>\n

The ball bounced off Castano’s face so violently that it sent Marlin’s third baseman Joey Wendle out while Castano himself fell to the ground, head in hands.<\/p>\n
Marlins coaches, manager Don Mattingly and catcher Jacob Stallings, ran to the mound to check on the 27-year-old, who was treated on the field but was able to leave the field.<\/p>\n
After he got up, Solano put his arm around him and the two exchanged words before Castano walked to the dugout.<\/p>\n
“I’m not sure what happened,” a bandaged Castano told reporters after the game. <\/p>\n
“I was down for a second. I was a bit upset. When I woke up I was like, ‘What happened?’ I’m much better now, I’m a bit tired but I’ll be fine.<\/p>\n
Marlins manager Mattingly said the ball’s bounce had partially eased since it hit the bill from Castano’s cap, according to ESPN. <\/p>\n
“It’s a little scary,” Mattingly said. “Your greatest fear is harm. He’s about as good as you might expect.”<\/p>\n
The Marlins later passed on Twitter<\/a> that Castano had suffered a bruised forehead with a slight concussion and is being further evaluated. Castano also went on to release his own statement Twitter<\/a>.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you everyone for the love, support and prayers. I’m fine and it could have been a lot worse,” he said. <\/p>\n
“Most grateful for the efficiency and kindness of my coaches, coaches, teammates and Solano, what I was shown today really goes beyond the game. What a sobering reminder of life’s brevity, grateful to have my assurance in Christ. Romans 8:28.”<\/p>\n
Miami won the game 7-6 after a late rally in the top of the 9th inning, led by a homer by Jes\u00fas S\u00e1nchez on a flyball into right field. <\/p>\n
The next game is on Friday when it faces the New York Mets.<\/p>\n
