Royal Mail workers voted to continue strikes over terms of service.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said its members reject the “erosion of rights in the workplace” and joined other sectors in voting to strike amid the rising cost of living.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Around 115,000 union members have already voted in favor of the strike in a separate wage dispute.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

CWU members in the Postal Service are already planning strikes on August 26th and 21st and September 8th and 9th.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

The CWU’s Terry Pullinger said in a statement: “In these times, working people need more job security, not less, and we will not back down until we find a solution acceptable to our members.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Members backed the strikes at 98.7% with a turnout of more than 72% – raising the risk of a disruption to postal services.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

A number of sectors, including aviation, rail and ports, have had to lay off workers in recent weeks as wages continue to lag rising inflation of around 10%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Right now this country is fed up with a business elite who are completely out of touch with ordinary people and their lives,” wrote CWU’s Dave Ward.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“Things are getting harder and harder for normal working people,” he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Rather than making a meaningful commitment to change that will safeguard future jobs, the CWU has chosen to vote against change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

“We’re losing \u00a31million a day and we need to change what we’re doing to fix the situation and protect jobs.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n
