(CNN)<\/cite>ESPN analyst Dick Vitale is cancer-free after long battles with lymphoma and melanoma, he announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

“Dr. Rick Brown just updated me on my results from my major pet scan and shared news I wish EVERY cancer patient could hear,” the college basketball analyst said wrote on Twitter<\/a>. “He said, ‘Dick, you’ve gone from remission to CANCER FREE’! Thanks to EVERYONE who sent me (prayers).”<\/p>\n
The veteran announcer, famous for his bombastic style and love of the game, broke the news that he had lymphoma in 2021 after already having multiple surgeries to get rid of his melanoma.<\/p>\n

He later announced that he would be taking a break from gaming to rest his vocal cords.<\/p>\n

In an essay on ESPN, Vitale wrote that experts told him there was a 90% cure rate for the type of lymphoma he had.<\/p>\n
Lymphoma is cancer of the lymphatic system, an important part of the immune system. The lymphatic system is made up of tubes or tubes throughout the body with filters called lymph nodes along the way. The system carries a clear fluid containing immune-fighting cells such as lymphocytes.<\/p>\n
Vitale has been with ESPN since the network’s launch in September 1979. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008. The network released a documentary honoring analyst “Dickie V.” on ESPN+ in July. <\/p>\n
